Making A Scene

a soft playful smile

nervous energies

crowded room

smoke filling the air

deep hazel eyes

nobody else matters

a soft giggle

playful glances

no greater purpose

keep her smiling

not a care else in the world

just a happy tiny moment

so many voices

so many sounds

hanging off her every word

so focused and engaged

standing so very close

brushing her soft hair aside

whispering in her ear

the warmth of her blush

she doesn’t push away

the softness of her kiss

pink matte lipstick

pulling her closer still

so many eyes on us

making a scene

pretending not to notice

living in the moment

Smudged

Shifting uneasily in her tall bar stool

Waiting far too long

He probably isn’t coming

He never really was

Reapplying lip gloss

Drawing a crowd of eyes

So many boys who thought they were long since men

Like magnets to her carefully pursed lips

Soft pink and glistening

The only thing in the room

Busy pub televisions playing the game of the day

All those boys’ eyes on her

Her short white skirt

Sexy and yet classy

She admires herself in her compact mirror

The bartender tops up her wine

A wonderfully smudged glass

Dashed are her plans

only known to her

Still so beautiful

The center of attention

All the boys clamor

Mustering up some liquid courage

Slipping out uneventfully

Maintaining her mystery

Smiling only to herself

Loving every minute

Every second

Feeling so very wanted

best date night

so happy to be alone

On my way

Loose gravel crunching

Slip sliding along

A lonely stretch of highway

Alone

Half lost and tired

Middle of nowhere

A light in the distance

That old tired car

Sleeping in the ditch

How envious still

Of a car sleeping

Trudging onward

Tiring feet

Exhausted limbs

Heaviest eyelids

The light in the distance

Blurring more and more

Just darkness

More darkness

The light extinguished

Empty highway

Crunching onward

Everything so silent

Just a quiet wind

Hard steps

Heavy breaths

Then nothing

Silence

Sleepless

The greatest warmth

A blanket for all winters

Never tiring

How she sleeps

So soundly

Draped across me

Held so tight

I never dare

Squirm in the night

Although my sleep

Inevitably suffers

I fear the cold

If she would leave

For another

I lay awake

Often admiring her beauty

Unmistakable smell of her hair

Known only to me

The way her head nestles

So close against my chest

Ceiling fan whirring

The only other sound

Her soft little breaths

So beautiful she sleeps

Ever so soundly

Destination

Seemingly endless silence

Her eyes deep

Emerald green

An unnatural hue

Staring back into mine

She had a way

Inspecting my soul

A wry smile

Her hand reaches for mine

Playfully swatting her away

Pulling her closer

We stop only to laugh

The softest lips

Pressed firmly against my neck

Her teeth sharp

Playful bites and nibbles

Clothes hit the floor

Flying here and there

Tongues dancing

Together finally

The comfy leather sofa

We won’t make it to bed

Not for a while

Finally here

together
