On my way

Loose gravel crunching

Slip sliding along

A lonely stretch of highway

Alone

Half lost and tired

Middle of nowhere

A light in the distance

That old tired car

Sleeping in the ditch

How envious still

Of a car sleeping

Trudging onward

Tiring feet

Exhausted limbs

Heaviest eyelids

The light in the distance

Blurring more and more

Just darkness

More darkness

The light extinguished

Empty highway

Crunching onward

Everything so silent

Just a quiet wind

Hard steps

Heavy breaths

Then nothing

Silence

Whispers in Winter

It’s hard to whisper in winter

sound deadened by snow

speak up loudly when you see her

breathe deeply

deep down low

soon now

she will leave you

seemingly unaware

the outskirts of her mind

staying is better

nothing was dire

never have to worry

skilled at being alone

cold feet frozen

crunching through the snow

each footstep echoes

never stopping

onward she goes

never whisper in winter

the eerie quiet of the snow
